Layout
The floor plan of Queensway Shopping Centre is designed in a unique way, resembling a “Bagua” (octagon) shape as shared by one of the tenants we interviewed. There are three storeys in this shopping centre, excluding the underground parking lot. The layout of each storey is similarly designed in a bagua way. A pattern can be observed in the way shops are distributed around the mall. The upper levels are mostly occupied by printing shops which operate at strict timings during the day, while small-sized family-owned businesses can be found on the lower levels. In the center, there is a narrow escalator connecting the lower and the higher floors. Interestingly, the escalator only moves in the upwards direction and has space for only one person at each step. Hence, shoppers will have to use the steps or the lift if they want to go to the lower floors.
